Artcycling partners organized national showrooms to show as much people as possible their creations. At the end of the project a big International Showroom was organized in Pécs, Hungary.
NATIONAL SHOWROOM IN SPAIN (21/06/2017)
The team of Artcyclers in INTRAS organized an open day in the day center for people with mental illness in Toro (Zamora-Spain). It was a party for the team before the summer break and they wanted to share it with the whole town. The event was really informal, a big party to celebrate the summer, the art and the creativity. The artistic creations made by the Artcyclers (recycled-fabrics carpets, ceramics, vertical gardens, sofa covers made of jeans, etc.) were showed to the general public and explained by the own artists: what they wanted to express, how do they did it, which materials did they use, etc. The exhibition remained opened in the day center until 5th July 2017.
We have to say that there are not many artistic activities in the town of Toro, much less about recycled art or any other transgressive artistic movements as this is, so we are proud to be in charge of changing the minds of our neighbors.
Moreover, we opened a shop in the center of the town where we sell some of the Artcycling creations, as for instance the ceramics and the recycled carpets. This has revealed as an effective way to reach people that normally are not interested in arts, so we think that it is a great opportunity for Artcycling.
NATIONAL SHOWROOMS IN HUNGARY (SPRING 2017)
In the spring of 2017 the ArtCyclers from Pécs, Hungary had two exhibitions with their creations. One of them was held in Pécs, in a cafe called Szabadkikötő, they showed the triaxial weaving technique they learned during the Atcycling project with an art installation and photos. The other Showroom was installed in the Fortress of Komárom during the Mediawave Festival and the ArtCyclers were able to show their own personal creations. This last one is a unique addition to Hungarian Festivals, because it gives interactive programs, active cooperation possibilities and sustainability.
Angéla Thiesz and Retextil Foundation has participated with workshops and installations previously. This year Angéla, the artdirector of the ArtCycling project, next to her own artistic ideas, applied with the exhibition of the ArtCyclers too.
The exhibition consisted of 48 creations from the 15 ArtCyclers with carpets, wall-art, bags, mandalas, sculptures and jewelleries. The colorful exhibition fit perfectly into the varied cultural, film, music and artistic program of the festival.
The visitors of the festival could interact with parts of the exhibition, children played with the tiny chair that would fit into a baby’s room, youngsters started to use the carpets, etc. The feedback was really positive, the ArtCyclers can now continue the creation of new works with fresh energies.
The ArtCyclers were really happy and excited about the possibility to show their work to so many people. They said it was a wonderful feeling that they could have shared their own ideas and processes, it was a great experience and a huge opening to them. They prepared the pieces and gave titles to each others creations together and this preparation brought the whole group closer to each other. For some of them, the showroom gave not just the feeling of openness but also the feeling of wanting to learn even more and getting better at what they are doing. The chance to open up to the public and the fact that they exhibited next to professional artists gave them fresh motivation to continue the work they began.
NATIONAL SHOWROOM IN SPAIN (15/02/2018)
A second national showroom was opened in the day center of INTRAS in the village of Toro to show the final results of the Artcycling initiative. Some of the works to be shown during the International Exhibition in Pécs were presented there: hand-made carpets, ceramic taps, paper mache boxes, customized t-shirts, sofa covers made of jeans… Around 25 people attended to the opening and had the opportunity to see all these products and enjoy the explainations of María Luisa, Atilano and Lucio, three Artcyclers participating in the project. They talked about the creative process following the Artcycling philosophy: art, recycling, tradition and a strong defense of hand-made products. The works are unique, original imperfect. Although the Artcycling project finished in April 2018, the Spanish artcyclers will continue creating and their works will be sold in the “shop” space of this website.
This art exhibition was open from 15th February to 1st March 2018.
NATIONAL SHOWROOM IN DENMARK (January 2018)
The Artcycling national showroom in Denmark was organized in the shape of the exhibition “The Eternal Return of Matter – Artcycling Exhibition” for two weeks in the centre of Copenhagen’s creative district (around 150 guests attended the vernissage). In the exhibition participated individual as well as groups of artists: Annemette Rosenborg Eriksen, Dorte Bundesen, Helle Sveistrup Clausen, Christoph Ehrlich, Bakano Design (by Wilmar Nieto Carvajal and Astrid Ågot Nielsen), and the Artcycling Collective (representation from the participants in the workshops winter 2017). For the opening a vernissage was held with some invited guests. This was a very well visited event, with a great diversity of audience. On this occasion, the artists had the chance to make a small presentation of their works to all the guests. This, combined with the informal talks around the work, served as good way to reflect about the various learnings in the work and to give the artists an idea about what could be the next steps.
INTERNATIONAL SHOWROOM IN PÉCS (12-27/04/2018)
A big international showroom was organized in Pécs, Hungary, with a selection of the most representative works made by the Spanish, Hungarian and Danish artcyclers in the last three years. It was a great opportunity to know the different techniques used, like for instance crochet, the retextil weaving, ceramics, photography, etc. It was also an opportunity to see the differences between the different countries, as art is a reflection of reality, and the different collectives or target groups that participated in the project.
During the exhibition an international symposium was also organized, including a round table with artists that shared different points of view about upcycling art. The exchange of knowledge, experiences and hopes was really amazing and a reflection of what a European project should be: exchange of different cultures and realities.
